Tracing Your German Ancestry
Traveling and migrations are widely spread throughout the world. In most
cases, people go to other countries to satisfy their curiosity, or for
the sake of some minor changes in their lives. Anyway, they are homeward-bound.
For other people such minor changes are too insignificant, their souls
are arranged so that they just won't live peacefully in one place, and
they require something greater than just a fun journey. They change their
whereabouts, they move, they migrate far away leaving their homes and
relatives behind in hope of better life and bright future. And no nation
of the world is an exception! Neither are Germans.
As a German Culture Guide at About, I get dozens of letters from people
located all over the world with requests to help them find their German
roots. Although living far from Germany, people long to maintain their
family relations, and it is wonderful! In my attempts to help I have compiled
quite a number of links on German genealogy. You can see the entire collection
at the special genealogy page
on this site, or right here below. Any serious research must have its
serious theoretical grounds. Beginners are strongly recommended to start
with some genealogy lessons, and finally get into the real genealogical
search. Good luck in your investigations!
