The Hanseatic of Lubeck – Museum of German History

The little town of Lubeck , the former powerful Hanseatic center of the Baltic Sea area in the Middle Ages, is now is the huge natural museum of the German national culture and history. Among the German historical heritages added to UNESCO list the Lubeck is mostly worth such great position.

That is because you cannot step but come across one of the Lubeck numerous historical monuments and stunning sites of the German great cultural, political and historical background.

The fairy medieval town preserves the tenth of both physical and emotional signs of the German events occurred during the centuries starting up the twelfth one. Although the Lubeck ’s visitors admire all sights at every meter of the tour the most significant ones are those which still smells medieval atmosphere of brave knights, honest and respectful kings and emperors, German legends and national dignity.

Among them are Lubeck castle monastery, Lubeck cathedral, Lubeck world-famous street courses with the medieval houses which preserves different architecture, the Lubeck Gate, the museum of St. Katharine church, the City Hall, the Salt Memory and the Gothic monastery museum.

Monasteries and cathedrals located in Lubeck were re-constructed after the wars but the restoration aims were to preserve the initial design and styles. Therefore, the modern view of edifices are vivid examples of the Romanesque, Gothic, Rococo development in European architecture.

It is sometimes said that one of the most striking and legendary sight in Lubeck is its Gate built in the Middle Ages. Primarily the Gate was equipped by 30 cannons but according to the legend none of them did shot form the 15 th century till present days. Since the gate was constructed on the bar which rusted for years and was set on a pile ground the construction began inclining down. Some attempts to save the gate’s straight position were taken by different architects, therefore, the fastening concrete anchors and iron rings appeared on the gate’s walls. The gate’s background is closely connected with the town history and is full of legends. Thus, its guests are advised to take an excursion while visiting. The gate’s view is very popular even outside Germany due to its magnificent sign left in Latin after the construction completion. This sign – ‘inside unity-outside peace’ became the symbolic striving which must have driven not just Lubeck citizens but the whole Germany which suffered so much from internal and external separating wars during the centuries.
